Australia-US relations tested over the Strait of Hormuz: where are we at?
US President Donald Trump has again criticised Australia for not offering to send ships to the Strait of Hormuz, telling reporters in Washington “I’m not happy with Australia because they were not there when we asked them to be”.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that Australia is one of a number of nations to reject or ignore requests to assist the US in the war in the Middle East.
But Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says there have been no new requests from the US for help to secure the strait.
With both leaders saying something different, where does this leave the relationship between Canberra and Washington?
