Australia and Japan have signed a multi-billion dollar contract for the first of the Australian navy’s next generation warships.
The government is believed to be spending about $10 billion on the upgraded fleet of Mogami-class frigates.
Defence Minister Richard Marles and his Japanese counterpart held a ceremonial gathering in Melbourne to mark signing of the contract.
