‘All this money is going to organised crime’: Labor’s tobacco tax slammed

News24 host James Morrow blasts Labor’s tobacco tax strategy, warning excessive taxation has driven legal smokers towards illegal products and funnelled billions of dollars of potential revenue into organised crime.

“It is the basic economics of this: when you tax something past a certain point … you get less of the tax because you’ve just discouraged the activity”, Mr Morrow told News24 host Peta Credlin.

“With tobacco you get the illegal stuff.

“All of this money is getting shoved into organised crime.

“At some point the government has to back down.”
