Albanese’s London trip brings warnings about far-right populism
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stepped into 10 Downing Street carrying a six-pack of Australian beer after a day of talks on the rise of far-right populism and efforts towards peace in the Middle East.
The dinner was a group event, with Sir Keir Starmer hosting Albanese and his partner Jodie Haydon, along with Canadian leader Mark Carney and his wife Diana.
Earlier, the three leaders appeared at a left-wing political conference where they shared the stage with Iceland’s Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir.
Starmer is under pressure at home and slipping in the polls amid a surge in support for the far-right Reform UK party led by Nigel Farage.
At the conference, recent election victories by centre-left parties in Australia and Canada were cited as examples to follow.
