Albanese uses UN speech to push for Middle East cooperation, Security Council seat
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has used his first speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to call for unity and action in the Middle East. He reiterated Australia had formally recognised Palestinian statehood and called for a ceasefire in Gaza. He also advocated for Australia to have a temporary seat on the UN Security Council, saying it provides “a voice” for small and middle powers like Australia.
