‘Cockroach’ movement protests end after education minister’s resignation
Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned, handing a major victory to the “cockroach” youth-led protests nationwide which had demanded he take responsibility for examination paper leaks.
The Indian government also agreed to reforms in the exam system after the series of leaks forced millions to retake a medical entrance exam and sparked the movement’s first offline protests.
The youth-led “cockroach” movement began in May after a Supreme Court chief justice compared some unemployed young people to “cockroaches” and “parasites” during a hearing on another issue.
