‘Unable to accommodate’: Pole studio owner dumbfounded after trans rights battle

Queens of Pole Owner Nomes Witney explains why she refused a trans woman membership at her Gold Coast studio, saying the decision has now resulted in a complaint before the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

“I own a pole dancing studio on the Gold Coast, and I offer a free trial class,” Ms Witney told Sky News Australia.

“My complainant came along in February to a free trial class, and when it was explained that we were unable to host them in our space, my instructor that was running this class said the situation kind of because a little bit unsure.

“She ran this class as supposed to, and in the class that’s when my complainant disclosed that they identified as a woman and the vibe of the class shifted.

“I reached out to them and explained that we were unable to accommodate the trans community at this time, and I guess that wasn’t the response they were hoping to hear.

“Two days later they went to QHRC, and now we’re heading to QCAT unfortunately.”
