‘Perfect storm’: Treasurer mocked for celebrating housing market slump
Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell ridicules Treasurer Jim Chalmers for calling a six-year low in auction clearances good news.
“How else could he spin it right?” Mr Clennell told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“You’ve got a lot of parents out there who think my children won’t be able to afford to live in the city that I might live in, but they don’t want their house prices to drop.
“This is a perfect storm; it’s a situation where you’ve got the rate hikes on one hand, driving down prices, driving down confidence, the Iran war and the cost-of-living prices doing the same.
“If you’re looking to buy, it’s good news, and if you’re looking to sell, it’s terrible news.”
