Why is Sussan Ley criticising Anthony Albanese’s Joy Division shirt?
Opposition leader Sussan Ley has called for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to apologise for wearing a Joy Division band shirt.
“At a time when Jewish Australians are facing a rise in antisemitism, when families are asking for reassurance and unity, the prime minister chose to parade an image derived from hate and suffering,” she said.
The famous 70s post-punk band got their name from the sexual slavery wing of a Nazi concentration camp mentioned in the 1953 novel The House of Dolls.
