Louvre robbed in broad daylight as thieves steal ‘priceless’ crown jewels

One of the world’s most iconic museums has been hit by masked thieves with chainsaws who carried out their broad daylight heist in just seven minutes.
Now “priceless” jewellery is confirmed stolen.
French Culture Minister Rachida Dati took to social media to confirm the incident, which happened around 9:40am local time (6.40pm Sydney time), reassuring the public that no one had been injured in the brazen theft.
“No injuries to report,” Ms Dati wrote on social media.
“I am on site alongside the museum teams and the police. Investigations underway.”
Ms Dati later said one stolen item had been found near the Louvre after the thieves made their getaway.
Several French media outlets report that the item is a 19th Century crown belonging to Empress Eugenie – the wife of Napoleon III, who ruled France in that era.- and was found broken.
According to Louvre’s website, the crown features golden eagles and is covered in 1,354 diamonds and 56 emeralds.
It is believed that there were four individuals involved in the heist, French outlet Le Parisien reports. Two of them wore yellow vests disguised as workers at the museum, while the other two were on scooters, according to the outlet.
