Searches continue along the Nepal-Tibet border, as towns begin clean-up process
More than 3,000 people remain missing, including 42 Australians in Nepal. Six Australians are also missing on the Tibetan side of the border.
In Bidur, the capital of Nuwakot District, the torrent of water was so powerful that it destroyed the winding road that once ran through it, as well as most of the buildings lining it.
Menuka Manandhar was the last person to leave her home, making it out only just before it was destroyed.
“I was here when the disaster struck, we escaped it by only a minute. We had barely crossed the road when it hit.”
SBS International Correspondent Claudia Farhart travelled to the town that is town sits more than 45 kilometres from the site of glacial collapse which triggered deadly mudslides and flash flooding.
