‘You must commit to the country’: Angus Taylor defends Coalition’s citizen-only welfare policy
Opposition leader Angus Taylor has defended the Coalition’s policy to cut welfare payments to non-citizens.
“We have relatively low eligibility thresholds here in this country to become a citizen, so you can choose to become a citizen, and that’s your choice,” he told Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.
“But if you don’t want to become a citizen, there’s a price you pay for that.
“Look, Australian citizenship has to matter. We live in one of the greatest countries in the world. Those who come here and don’t want to be citizens, they still get a great benefit.”
