New South Wales launches the world’s most extensive drone-based shark monitoring programme, deploying more than 150 drones to patrol 70 beaches across the state daily. The $120 million two-year initiative by Surf Life Saving New South Wales will conduct 500,000 drone flights annually, with 38 beaches in Sydney and 32 regional beaches receiving dawn-to-dusk surveillance. The programme represents a world-first approach to beach safety and shark detection.
