Why Pocock got the boot from parliament sports club
Former Wallabies captain turned senator David Pocock says he’s been kicked out of the parliamentary sports club – and it’s not for being overqualified.
The ACT independent senator says he was booted after questioning whether it was appropriate for it to be sponsored by a gambling industry lobby group.
The club – which hosts friendly games between MPs, their staff, public servants and journalists – has denied lobbying takes place on the field.
Pocock said he raised concerns with the club’s CEO Andy Turnbull before going public.
