Why are we seeing more washed-up whale carcasses? | ABC NEWS
In recent weeks, we’ve seen whale carcasses wash-up on beaches on both the eastern and western coasts of Australia.
Whale scientist Vanessa Pirotta from Macquarie University says most carcasses sink out at sea, however there have been a few more cases this year of dead whales washing onshore, attracting sharks closer to humans. She also says the best management is to take the carcasses back out into the ocean so a natural whalefall can occur.
