What we know about DRC’s Ebola outbreak so far

There have been more than 105 suspected deaths from an outbreak of Ebola, which has been declared a public health emergency in central sub-Saharan Africa.

Medical personnel were rushing on Monday to the front lines of a new Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of ​Congo, where late detection of the virus and quick spread have alarmed health experts.

So far, there have been more than 300 suspected cases and 88 deaths, with an additional two fatalities in neighbouring Uganda.

The World Health Organization has declared it a public health emergency of “international concern”.

The director-general of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, Jean Kaseya, said with insufficient supplies of medicine and vaccines, it’s an equity issue.

“Western countries, they don’t understand that, when Africa is affected, they are also at risk, because people are flying every day,” he said.
