‘We are not at war with Venezuela’: Mike Johnson briefs press after Congress meeting
US House Speaker Mike Johnson claims the US are “not at war” with Venezuela and does not have “US armed forces in Venezuela”.
“Congress retains full oversight authority, and the administration is acting consistent with the law,” Mr Johnson said.
“The US has always maintained the right to use force to defend our national interest, to preserve the safety of the American people and to prevent ongoing threats to its security.
“Venezuela state-sponsored drug trafficking constituted a persistent violation of US sovereignty and a direct threat to the safety of our citizens, and our president was justified in taking action to stop it.”
