Warning over housing tax changes amid push for ‘intergenerational fairness’

EQ Economics Managing Director Warren Hogan says the Labor government should focus on boosting housing supply rather than changing long-standing tax settings in the name of “intergenerational fairness”.

“You’ve got to be very careful changing taxes that have set up decisions around long-term assets like housing,” Mr Hogan told Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood.

“Going and changing them in the hope of fixing something you’re not sure exactly how you’re defining it … you’ve got to be careful of the unintended consequences.”
