Five years after a military coup overthrew Myanmar’s democratically elected government and ignited a civil war, the country is holding elections that many view as a sham. Human rights activists are calling for a voter boycott.
Voter turnout is significantly lower than in the last election, when the National League for Democracy, led by Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, won decisively before the military staged a coup.
