Victoria’s surf coast experienced a devastating flash flood emergency after 180 millimetres of rain fell in just six hours along the Great Ocean Road. The Erskine River burst its banks, forcing campers to evacuate to higher ground as torrents of water swamped caravan parks in Lorne, Wye River and Cumberland River, sweeping dozens of cars and caravans into the ocean. One child suffered minor injuries during helicopter winching operations, but miraculously no one was reported missing or seriously injured, with emergency relief centres established for displaced families.
