Victoria introduces strict poultry housing rules amid bird flu spread | 7NEWS
Victoria has recorded 47 cases of H5 bird flu, with the latest detections in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs including Yambuc, Apollo Bay and Clyde. The state government has introduced a mandatory housing order requiring farms with more than 50 birds to house their poultry indoors as a precautionary biosecurity measure. Agriculture Minister Michaela Settle and Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Graeme Cook confirmed there is no detection of H5N1 bird flu in poultry and very low risk to people.
