Venezuela prisoner release: Loved ones anxiously wait outside
President of Venezuelan national assembly Jorge Rodríguez announced the release of a “significant number” of citizens and foreigners from its prisons as a gesture to “seek peace”.
Family and friends anxiously wait outside prisons as Rodríguez announced it’s “happening right now”.
The Penal Forum, a human rights organisation in Venezuela, reported that as of 29 December, there were 863 people detained in the country’s prisons “for political reasons”.
It is unclear as to when the releases will take place and who will be released.
