China and Russia have been joined by a number of other countries in criticising the US capture of Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro, as the United Nations Security Council held an emergency session.
Beijing labelled the US operation an ‘illegal’ and ‘bullying’ act, while Moscow called it an act of ‘armed aggression.
Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Cuba and Columbia joined the two permanent Security Council members in criticising the move, while Argentina and Latvia endorsed the US Ambassador’s argument that the seizure was a law enforcement operation.
