US senators question Pete Hegseth’s war strategy
United States defence secretary Pete Hegseth faced a grilling by senators at a committee hearing on Wednesday.
Hegseth fronted the meeting to call for additional defence funding, leading some senators to question his strategy for the US war on Iran.
Hegseth warned that military training exercises could be curtailed without an urgent funding boost.
Testifying before the Senate Appropriations Committee, Hegseth said the Pentagon needed Congress to approve an additional US$87.6 billion ($125.2 billion) in supplemental funding to the USD$1.5 trillion ($2.14 trillion) national defence budget proposed by US President Donald Trump.
