US President Donald Trump defends threat to revoke broadcast licenses as free-speech concerns grow
United States President Donald Trump has criticised US television networks, saying it’s “really illegal” how “they’ll take a great story and they’ll make it bad”.
However, Trump told reporters he was “a very strong person for free speech” during questioning in relation to US media and comments made by US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) head Brendan Carr.
After talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! was indefinitely suspended for comments Kimmel about Charlie Kirk’s assassination, Carr insinuated that the FCC could revoke the licenses of outlets deemed to be broadcasting “news distortion”.
