US military operation in Venezuela ‘violates’ international law, says UN
The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has said the United States military operation in Venezuela violated a “fundamental principle of international law”.
Chief spokesperson for the OHCHR Ravina Shamdasani said the use of human rights arguments to justify military intervention was “unacceptable”.
US President Donald Trump has insisted the operation and capture of deposed Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro was legal, citing an “armed conflict” with Venezuelan drug cartels.
