“I do think that there’s some truth to the Spencer pride,” Ms Schofield told News24 host Rita Panahi.

“But Charles Spencer takes it even further in this book; he claims, apparently for the first time on record, that his own father was once intended for Princess Elizabeth until Mountbatten intervened.

“We know Diana’s father was absolutely thrilled about the royal wedding, so I’m not entirely buying this idea that the Spencer’s considered the Windsors beneath them.”
