UN raises alarm after Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces claim major strategic gain
Sudan’s paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), says it has achieved a major strategic victory in its two-and-a-half-year war against the country’s armed forces.
The RSF claims to have captured the army headquarters in el-Fasher — the Sudanese army’s last stronghold in the western Darfur region. The claim could not be independently verified, and the army has yet to comment.
The UN has said it is “deeply alarmed” by the intensified fighting, warning it is worsening what is already one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
