Trump rules out use of military force to seize Greenland | ABC NEWS
US President Donald Trump has dismissed the possibility of using force to acquire Greenland but is demanding immediate negotiations to transfer the ownership of the Arctic territory.
The US leader stopped short of ruling out trade tariffs on eight EU members which opposed his takeover bid, claiming the US is the only NATO ally with the capability to defend Greenland.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen has welcomed the US leader’s assurance at the World Economic Forum in Davos but insisted the Greenland issue was still present.
European leaders are weighing up the use of retaliatory tariffs dubbed ‘trade bazookas’.
