Trump greets Xi on arrival in a rare move

In a rare move, Chinese President Xi Jinping was welcomed by US President Donald Trump for a three-day visit with an unusual tarmac greeting, complete with a 30m-long red carpet and a 21-person honour guard.

The welcome ceremony also included a flyover by two B-1 bombers, flower presenters, platoons from each military service, and a presentation of the flags and anthems of both countries.

The move comes after the US treasury secretary announced that the two countries have agreed to extend their so-called “Busan ⁠agreement” — a temporary trade truce between the world’s two biggest economies.
