Trump calls New York Mayor-elect Mamdani a ‘communist’
US President Donald Trump has called New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani a communist during a speech at a business forum in Miami on Tuesday.
“Just look at the result of yesterday’s election in New York, where their party [the Democrats] installed a communist as the mayor of the largest city in the nation,” he said.
Mamdani, who is a self-described democratic socialist, said he had not yet heard from Trump but was “interested in having a conversation” about “delivering on his campaign promises around cost of living”.
