Trump announces intention to run for president in 2028

US president Donald Trump announced that he’d be running for president in the next election as he donned a “TRUMP 2028” hat the at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.

The event gathering journalists, politicians and administration officials was held to celebrate press freedom with the last event in April disrupted by a shooting.

Towards the end of his speech, which lasted more than an hour, Trump put on a “TRUMP 2028” hat to declare his “intention to run for a forth term as president of the United States”.

“I’m getting very good at running for president now. I won three times, did very well the second time by the way. It’s a rigged election, but we don’t have to talk about it,” Trump said.

His allegations contradicted an unclassified 2021 US intelligence community assessment that found no indications any foreign actor tried to alter or succeeded in altering “any technical aspect” of the 2020 presidential election vote.

A third term as president goes against the US constitution. The 22nd Amendment states in part: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice”.
