Tony Burke outlines major changes to Australia’s migration policies

Immigration Minister Tony Burke has detailed sweeping changes to Australia’s immigration system at the National Press Club in Canberra, including changes to student and visitor visas, the visa points system, and backpacker visa processing, as well as stricter visa rules.

The minister highlighted that today is Citizenship Day and described citizenship ceremonies as some of the country’s “most joyful and most patriotic events”, where people make a lifelong commitment to Australia and are welcomed into the national community.
