Thieves caught carrying 13 stolen artworks in São Paulo

On Sunday, December 7, two suspected art thieves allegedly stole 13 artworks from the Mario de Andrade Library in São Paulo. Eight pieces by Henri Matisse and five by Brazilian painter Candido Portinari were taken during a daytime heist.
Surveillance footage from the city’s Smart Sampa security system shows the suspects carrying the artworks to a nearby car. Other footage published by Jornal Nacional shows them crossing a busy road with a large bag. The library was hosting a joint exhibition with the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo at the time of the robbery.
