The protein gap affecting menopausal women | 7NEWS

CSIRO research reveals that declining oestrogen levels during menopause cause women to lose muscle mass faster than they can rebuild it, slowing metabolism and contributing to weight gain. Women experiencing menopause should consume 1.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight daily from fresh, unprocessed sources like meat, dairy, eggs, legumes and nuts to maintain muscle mass and physical strength. Adequate protein intake combined with resistance exercise helps regulate appetite, keeps metabolism high, and protects long-term physical health during this life stage.
