A 37-year-old man was arrested after he assaulted another man in Surrey, British Columbia, before chasing after him while brandishing a knife, footage from September 9 shows.
Robin Nuber, who recorded the incident on his phone and through his car’s dashcam, told Storyful he was at Redwood Park for a family photoshoot when he came across “what appeared to be the aftermath of a collision between a white pickup truck and a grey Jeep.”
“A few moments later, I heard someone yell, ‘He’s got a knife!’” Nuber said.
The victim is then seen running toward Nuber’s approaching Tesla while the knife-wielding male chases him down the road.
“In the moment, I was mostly running on adrenaline and focused on getting both of us away safely. There wasn’t much time to think about what was happening. I was trying to stay calm, avoid escalating the situation, and create as much distance as possible,” Nuber said. “It really wasn’t until afterward that I had time to process how serious and surreal the whole thing was.”
Surrey Police said officers responded to the scene at 4:44 pm.
“The victim attempted to drive away in his Ford pickup truck when the suspect drove his Jeep Wrangler into it. The victim then ran from the truck as the suspect allegedly brandished a knife and chased after him. Fortunately, a nearby witness driving a Tesla provided the victim safety until SPS officers arrived,” police said.
The knife-wielding individual was arrested and charged with five offences, including assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and criminal harassment.
