A 13-year-old boy on Queensland’s Fraser Coast has been charged under new counter-terrorism laws after allegedly planning a mass attack on Albert State School. Police allege the teenager, who had been absent from school for years due to bullying, viewed extremist content including the Christchurch mosque attack and purchased items identical to those worn by offenders, before threatening a BP service station worker with a knife and attempting to steal a car to reach the school. This marks the first prosecution under Queensland’s new extremism laws introduced following the Bondi Beach terror attack, with experts warning of increasing numbers of children being drawn to violent extremism.
