Synagogue attack kills two | Hamas split on Gaza peace plan | Putin warns against provocation

British police say the bravery of security staff and worshippers prevented an attacker from entering a Manchester synagogue after he had killed two Jewish men in a ramming and knife attack outside.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said police protection at synagogues across the country has been reinforced and pledged to defeat antisemitism.

Manchester is home to Britain’s biggest Jewish community outside London.

The attack occurred outside the Heaton Park synagogue, located in the northern suburbs of the English city.

Three people were seriously injured, while the perpetrator – a British citizen of Syrian background – was shot dead by police at the scene.

It took place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

A warning some viewers may find images in this report distressing.
