A Perth woman who suffered childhood abuse in the 1980s while under state care is suing the Western Australian government for negligence after child protection workers returned her to her abusers despite documented evidence of her trauma. Her case is one of 175 active claims against the state, following a landmark $3 million compensation win by another survivor which the government unsuccessfully attempted to overturn on appeal. Advocates are calling for an independent inquiry into how these cases are defended, arguing survivors are being re-traumatised rather than treated with compassion.
