A year 7 student is in critical condition at the Royal Children’s Hospital after his backpack became caught between train carriages at North Melbourne Station. The incident occurred around 4pm when the student was dragged onto the tracks, requiring emergency services to use a hydraulic jack to lift the train and free him. The school principal has offered mental health support to students who witnessed the traumatic event.
