This is the moment a crowd of strangers lifts an SUV off a 14-year-old girl trapped underneath after she was struck while looking at her mobile phone and riding an electric bike.
The rescue takes place on Yongfeng Road outside the entrance to Linqiong Ancient Town in Qionglai, a city in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, on August 19.
The girl, identified by local media by her surname Yang, was riding a shared electric bike through the middle of the road when she collided with the SUV and was swept underneath it.
Footage shows several people gathered around the vehicle as the girl remains trapped beneath it, prompting desperate cries for help.
Witness Li Lei, who happened to be passing by and filmed the rescue, recalled that the SUV’s wheel was pressing directly on the girl’s waist.
