Queensland braces for cyclone threat | 7NEWS
A severe storm system off the Queensland coast has an increased 50-60% chance of developing into a category one cyclone, threatening a 400-kilometre stretch from Port Douglas to Townsville. The region, already sodden from half a metre of rain in the past week that has killed or displaced 30,000 livestock, faces predictions of 350 millimetres of rain in 24 hours and winds up to 100 kilometres per hour. Emergency services have deployed half a million sandbags and more than 200 personnel with flood boats ahead of the expected Sunday impact.
