Prime Minister’s fuel mission cut short after major refinery fire | 7NEWS

A major fire at one of Australia’s two remaining oil refineries has prompted Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to cut short his Asian diplomatic mission and return home early. The incident at the Viva Energy refinery, which produces approximately 100,000 barrels per day and supplies 25% of Australia’s fuel requirements, primarily affected the petrol production line while diesel and jet fuel operations remained intact. Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles reports the company is optimistic about minimal supply disruption and a quick return to operations, though the timing coincides with existing fuel security concerns following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
