As Thailand prepares for hold elections on Sunday, a progressive political force that swept the 2023 election is now leading the pack. Three years ago, the Move Forward Party was opposing the military’s grip on government and promising to reform a law that criminalises any insult aimed at the monarchy. Despite winning a popular mandate, it was forcibly dissolved twice by a conservative court. It’s now known as the People’s Party, but its co-founder, billionaire businessman Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit is banned from contesting this election.
