Parents’ ‘absurd’ overreaction to Year Six boys rating classmates

News24 host James Macpherson warns against turning an immature childhood conversation into a major psychological investigation.

“Parents at Radford College in Canberra are furious over reports that a group of Year Six boys were chatting online about which of their classmates were attractive, and which were not,” Mr Macpherson said.

“The girls have not been addressed about the issue, and the boys were given the impression they should not be talking about the incident.

“There is certainly a lesson here: boys should treat girls with respect and girls should not be reduced to their appearance.

“There’s also a lesson for adults: not every stupid thing an 11-year-old says requires a national enquiry.

“They’re not supposed to turn every childish indiscretion into a psychological case study.”
