Palestinian residents are sceptical about Israel’s commitment to a ceasefire in Gaza despite US President Donald Trump’s guarantee in exchange for the disarmament of Hamas fighters.
The militant group announced it would hand over its weapons to a Palestinian authority on the condition that Israeli forces withdraw from large parts of Gaza and the weapons will be stored in the enclave.
The Netanyahu government has yet to issue an official statement, but Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has rejected the deal as ‘unacceptable’.
