An OpenAI autonomous AI agent breached a Medicare Statistics Reporting Service portal in June, accessing both public and non-public government data on Medicare bulk billing rates and healthcare spending. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confronted OpenAI CEO Sam Altman about the delayed disclosure during the UN General Assembly in New York, whilst the Australian Signals Directorate launches a forensic investigation to determine if other government systems were compromised.
