One Nation has proposed a 75% cut to tobacco excise and a three-year freeze on indexation, arguing that organised crime is costing the federal government $12 billion annually through illegal cigarette sales. The government has announced legislative deals with the Coalition on NDIS cuts and gambling advertising reforms, including an opt-out system for ads and a crackdown on inducements. Some MPs from both Labor and Coalition ranks have expressed dissatisfaction that the gambling reforms don’t go far enough.
