The New South Wales Minns Government has announced proposed guidelines restricting student screen time in schools, with preschoolers limited to 15 minutes daily, building up through primary school, and high school students spending around a quarter of their day on screens. The policy, prompted by the Program for International Students Assessment results showing Australian children’s reading and writing skills at an all-time low, will mandate at least one hour of pen and paper work daily. The changes are scheduled for rollout in 2028, though some schools are already implementing similar restrictions.
