Nobel Peace Prize winner who accused Israel of genocide jokes she’ll share award with Trump

Former UN human rights chief and International Criminal Court judge Navanethem Pillay has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2026.

Ms Pillay has worked for decades on cases of human rights.

She was prominent in the defence of anti-apartheid activists, including Nelson Mandela, and served on a tribunal investigating Genocide in Rwanda.

Recently, she also drew condemnation for a UN report which concluded Israel was committing genocide in Gaza.

Ms Pillay joked that she would share the award with US President Donald Trump, referencing the gesture from last year’s winner, Maria Corina Machado.
